Due to a chain of unforeseen circumstances, Varia's name ended up being a lot more relevant to her life than anticipated. Indirectly translating to "foreigner", this name has followed Varia accross four continents and countless failed attempts at answering a relatively simple question: where are you from?

Having grown up (and continuing to live) in a constant state of physical and cultural transience, Varia developed a deep fascianation with the relationship between human experience and systems - be they linguistic, visual, behavioural, architectural, or even of the public transportation kind.

Over the course of Varia's artistic journey, the dialogue between systems and humans transformed into the lens through which she approaches her artistic endevaours (individual pieces as well as larger projects) . Despite its oftentimes esoteric nature, visual art, to Varia, became the bridge which connected the experiential to the visual. She devised a process: picking apart, finding threads of commonality, and reconfiguring in a way which sought to feel inherently familiar.

As a consequence of Varia's frazzled nature, her words often escape her.
